In Loving Memory of
Benjamin Salvaty

December 22, 1940- April 12, 2008
The San Marino Chamber of Commerce is sad to report the passing
of Board of Directors Member, Benjamin Salvaty Saturday, April 12,
2008.
This is a sad day in the San Marino community. Ben not only was in
the first year of his term on the Board of Directors but also his
first term of President of the San Marino Historical Society. Ben
and his wife, Pat have been San Marino residents for over 40 years.
Ben leaves behind his wife Pat, and children Paul and Kathleen.

HISTORY AND ACTIVITIES
Founded in November of 1959 the mission of the San Marino Chamber of
Commerce is to promote the economic well-being of the community, to be an
advocate for its members and to provide community leadership.
The Chamber is governed by an eleven to fifteen member Board of Directors,
each serving a two-year term. Officers are chosen from the Board each year.
Working in partnership with the City, the Chamber plays an active roll in
supporting the local businesses and in recruiting new businesses to San
Marino. Having been an active participant in developing the City's Commercial
Plan, the Chamber is well equipped to assist prospective businesses in
finding a suitable location and obtaining the necessary permits and business
licenses. The Chamber is proud of the working relationship and what we have
accomplished in conjunction with the real estate and commercial property
brokers with listings in the City. We hope you will contact the Chamber if we
can be of assistance.
Each month the Chamber hosts:
Chamber Mixers
Second Thursday of the Month
5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Hosted by various local businesses and restaurants
The public is welcome
The Chamber has established an Ambassador Program with an Ambassador in
each business block to act as a liaison between Chamber members and the Board
of Directors. Ambassadors assist at Chamber functions and have helped
establish the BEAT Program (Business Emergency Action Team). The Chamber has
been actively involved with the Prism Committee (Partnership for
Revitalization in San Marino) since its inception and is currently assisting
in a parking study and chairing a committee to design and install banners in
the four commercial districts.
The Chamber is an active participant in various citywide events. The
Annual 4th of July Parade and Fireworks celebration is produced and sponsored
by the Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the City's Police, Fire, Parks
and Recreation Departments. During the holiday season, the Chamber and local merchant's
host two open house events open to the public. Both events offer free
transportation (London Buses and horse drawn carriages), refreshments, and
entertainment providing an opportunity for residents, local businesses,
friends and neighbors to enjoy a festive evening in town.
For more information about Chamber events, please watch for updates on the
Chamber calendar. The San Marino Tribune also features coverage of all
Chamber events.
THE
SAN MARINO DIRECTORY
The San Marino Chamber of Commerce purchased the
“original” San Marino Directory in August 2005, from long time owner Gloria
Hooker and is pleased to continue this community tradition.
The “original” San Marino Directory has been in existence
since 1937. The printer of the Directory is Sinclair Printing, founded in
1929, and is owned and operated by Robert and Dan Sinclair, 4th generation
of the Sinclair family to run the business. They are lifelong residents of
San Marino, assisting the Chamber to keep the tradition alive as a community
directory!
